Dial 112 in Distress, Not for Fun: Baramulla Police To Citizens

Baramulla, Aug 9 (KNS): In a bid to strengthen emergency response mechanism in the district, Baramulla Police has launched a comprehensive public awareness campaign to popularise the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Helpline 112, officials said on Sunday.

A police spokesman said the campaign, being carried out through print and electronic media, social media platforms, posters, banners and community interaction programmes, aims to educate citizens about the unified emergency number that provides immediate police assistance and other emergency support round the clock.

"The helpline 112 can be accessed from both mobile and landline phones. Citizens are urged to dial the number in situations such as accidents, law-and-order problems, threats to life, medical emergencies, fire incidents and cases involving women and children," the spokesman said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The police have advised callers to provide precise information about the nature of the emergency and their location to facilitate prompt response.

Authorities have also appealed to the public to refrain from making prank or false calls, warning that such misuse could divert emergency resources from those in genuine need. "An effective emergency response system requires not just police preparedness but also responsible citizen participation," the spokesman added.

Baramulla Police reiterated its commitment to citizen-centric policing and urged people to remember "112 – One Number for Emergency Assistance" for all emergency needs. The department said it would continue such awareness drives to ensure the helpline's benefits reach all sections of society across the district. (KNS)
