DHSK to deploy 1500 health workers for Yatra duties this year

Srinagar, May 04 (KNS) : Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather today visited Regional Institute of Health &Family Welfare (RIHFW), Dhobiwan and reviewed ‘Training of Trainers’ program in High Altitude Medicine ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2022. 

 
The training has been organized in collaboration with Office of the Director General Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
 
Dr Anil Gurtoo, Professor of Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), Delhi, Dr Preeti Gupta, Associate Professor of cardiology at Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, Dr Arin Chowdhary, Assistant Professor of Anaesthsia at Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, Dr Rohit Kumar, Assistant Professor of Pulmonology at Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi are conducting the training program.
 
On the occasion, the director said the focus of the program is the varied presentation of symptoms by the high altitude travellers and early recognition of potentially fatal conditions. 
 
He said during this year, it is expected that around 1500 medical staff will be deployed for Yatra duties and in order to provide best medical services to the devotees.
 
“In addition the Department of Health conducts training in High Altitude Medicine for MRT, SDRF & medical staff of Police, BSF etc,”he said.
 
The three-day training program is being attended by 30 doctors of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, who will intern conduct the down the line trainings and will conclude on May 06.
 
Dr MA Rather while addressing the participants emphasised the importance of training for the staff deployed there so that they are able to handle medical emergencies during the Annual Yatra in a proactive and scientific manner so as to minimise the morbidity and mortality associated with high altitude exposure of the pilgrims. He also thanked the trainers from the ministry for their participation in this program.(KNS)
