Srinagar, Jul 29 (KNS): Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) today officially launched "BLS in Schools" Programme from Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, Srinagar. Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman and Principal Convent Higher Secondary School (PCHS), Sister Phyllis inaugurated the one day BLS training programme.
A total of 100 students along with few teachers took part in the programme actively and were imparted the Basic Life Support skills by the Master Trainers of the DHSK. The training involved the basics of pre hospital care being given by a first responder at the time of any eventuality. Various topics were included which ranged from managing bleeding patients to CPR in an Unconscious Patient without breathing. At the end a mock drill was also held wherein the students were made to simulate and prioritise in handling trauma patients as a first responder.
The BLS Master trainers from DHSK included Dr Arshad Rafi, Dr Ijtaba Shafi, Dr Sabeena Zargar, Shafi Shah, Farhana & Nighat who were assisted by Dr Kounsar from PCHS.
At the inaugural session Director Health Services, Kashmir briefed upon the seriousness of the department in expanding the BLS Training outreach programme.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe stated that out of 7000 people trained in BLS by DHSK till date, more than 2000 people have been trained outside the Directorate which involved Police Personnel, Airport Employees, School & College Children, Media Fraternity. He further said that it won't be possible for the Department to train everybody in BLS and accordingly earlier this year a “BLS ToT PILOT PROJECT” was launched wherein 500 BLS trainers will be made which will be imparting BLS training to various stakeholders in every health block of Kashmir Division, wherein to cover both Govt. and Pvt. Schools and Colleges will be of the utmost priority. He also stressed the school authorities to keep first aid drugs, logistics and basic first aid equipments readily available in school and school buses which will be of utmost importance in any kind of eventuality.
At the end Principal PCHS, Sister Phyllis expressed her vote of thanks to the Director Health Services, Kashmir for organising such a vital training in the school. (KNS)
