Kupwara,Aug 21 (KNS) : In a significant step towards youth empowerment and national integration, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) marked its expansion in Jammu and Kashmir with a special honors ceremony and the establishment of new units at the 28 Infantry Division Headquarters, Kupwara, on Tuesday.
The event was graced by the Director General of NCC, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, who was the chief guest. He was accompanied by Maj Gen Anupinder Bevli,VSM ADG JK&L directorate, Brig Atul Tripathi, Dy GOC 28 Infantry Division, and Lt Col S. S. Misquith, Officiating Commanding Officer, 7 J&K Battalion NCC Kupwara.
The ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from 150 cadets, 10 principals, and 10 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), reflecting the growing interest among youth from border and remote areas in joining the premier youth organization.

DG Commendation Card was awarded to First Officer Iftikhar Ahmad Lone, ANO of BHS Tangdhar.

DG Medallion Awards were conferred on Cadet Nazrana Ahsan Wani (GDC Bandipora) and Cadet Asaid Zahoor (AGS Tangdhar) for their exemplary leadership and performance.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh praised the efforts of the 7 J&K Battalion NCC and called upon cadets to uphold the organization’s motto of “Unity and Discipline.” He stressed that the expansion of NCC units in J&K will open up wider opportunities for youth, instill leadership qualities, and strengthen the spirit of patriotism and community service.
DG told the NCC cadets that after completing their course, they would witness a positive transformation within themselves. He emphasized that the NCC ensures equal opportunities for both male and female cadets in every event. Highlighting the dignity of service, he remarked that those who wear the NCC uniform earn self-respect and the respect of society.
The event marked a proud milestone for Kupwara district, aligning with the broader national initiative to reinforce NCC’s presence in strategically important border areas(KNS)
