DG Horticulture flags off first consignment of fruit plants to border, tribal areas of Kupwara

Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNS): Director General Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Sunday flagged off the first consignment of different fruit plants for border and tribal areas of Tangdhar and Teetwal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that he was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Kupwara.

It reads that DG Horticulture had a few months back visited the area and demand for these fruit plants was put forth by DDC members and locals which has been fulfilled by the department. 

Speaking on the occasion, he assured that the department is committed to provide all types of help to the to the far-flung areas of the valley. 

He said that the campaign to reach out to the farmers of far-flung and tribal areas will continue with the same momentum and cultivation of these fruits will increase the production, which will meet demands of locals as well as demand of the valley.

He said that it will also provide livelihood to farmers and will help in protecting the environment.

The official said that DG Horticulture is expected to visit the area in next week and will personally monitor the distribution of the fruit plants among the farmers. (KNS)
