Srinagar, Nov 03 (KNS): Rejecting the government decision to open a liquor shop at Srinagar International Airport, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Friday slammed the PDP-led administration, saying it is hell bent on destroying the Valley’s culture and promoting vulgarity.
It sought explanation from the government for maligning the name of the revered saint Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) whose teachings strongly condemn the “mother of all evils”.
A DFP spokesperson in a statement issued to KNS said the PDP government in the garb of promoting tourism is ruining the Kashmiri culture.
He rejected the government’s justification that the step has been taken to woo tourists, and cited the reference of some Indian states like Gujarat and Bihar which have banned the sale of liquor.
“But the so-called government of J&K is hell bent to push our youth to moral waywardness by suggesting the opening of cinemas and liquor shops, just for petty material gains,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The spokesperson said it is unfortunate that the state’s cultural academy also is involved in cultural aggression and promotion of indecency in the name of cultural shows. “And this all is done by those making huge claims of inculcating morality among our youth,” he said.
The party has warned the government to stop plans of undertaking such moves and has appealed to religious organisations and leaders to rise against the government’s decision. “The people of Jammu Kashmir won’t allow such cultural aggression at any cost,” he said. (KNS)
