Srinagar, Feb 15 (KNS): The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Wednesday said there is no constitutional or moral justification of the continuous arrest of incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Masarat Alam Bhat, shifting him from one jail to other, and implicating him in false cases.
In a statement issued to KNS, DFP general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari said Alam is kept behind bars despite several release orders issued by courts.
Demanding Masarat Alam’s release, Tari said the state administration is resorting to unconstitutional means against the political prisoners.
He also termed it unjustified the arrest of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) chief Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and her secretary Sofi Fehmeeda saying the so-called government’s tall claims of providing space for peaceful political activities in the state are nothing but a deceit while as reality is that the state has been converted into a virtual jail.
“To put undue restrictions on activities of political leaders and activists is unacceptable in a civilised society. It’s a shame that state administration is reserving the right to political freedom and expression to itself.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelStill, the world has come to know about the grave situation of Kashmir,” he said.
Meanwhile, DFP general secretary has strongly condemned the continuous raids on the house of party’s senior leader Er Farooq Ahmad Khan. “Such oppressive measures won’t break our resolve. This is nothing but dictatorship,” he said.
Moulana also slammed authorities for disallowing the ‘Kulgam Chalo’ programme and arresting the leaders saying autocracy is ruling the roost in Jammu Kashmir.
Meanwhile, a party spokesperson while expressing concern over the plight of political prisoners said there is brazen violation of jail manuals as inmates are denied every basic facility.
“Many ailing octogenarian prisoners are not released; even release orders by courts have been issued in favour of some detainees only to be violated by authorities,” he said.
“Worst part is that even human rights organisations continue to remain silent over such grave situation in Kashmir. These bodies have become politicised and are toeing the anti-Muslim line propagated by the western media,” Tari added. (KNS)
