Srinagar, Dec 23 (KNS): Democratic Party (Nationalist) DPN president and former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir on Monday said it has been almost five months since the political leaders and other people were detained ‘preventively’.
“In democracy it is not a rule to put the preventive detainees under continuous detention. The preventive detention was for emergency and after normalcy was restored they must be freed,” Mir told KNS.
He said this doesn’t suit to a democratic country to put political leaders under detention for a long time. “Government should immediately release all the political leaders, and other detainees, who were detained ahead of abrogation of Article 370,” the DPN president demanded.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“The leaders are not criminals that they were detained under prevention. The government must provide all the facilities to the detainees’, especially health care facilities,” Mir said,
He also condoled the demise of Jamaat-e-Islamia activist, who died on Friday in Allahabad jail and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
“It is really strange that the government is not even considering the release of political detainees. On one hand, the government says situation in Kashmir is normal, but on the other Kashmiri people are suffering in absence of elected government. People have been left at the mercy of bureaucracy,” he said. (KNS)
