Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNS): Residents in Pulwama villages are up against the authorities for not acting to stop some farmers from converting agriculture land into barren land by planting poplar trees.
The residents in villages in Ratnipora, Lajoora, Puchal and other adjacent villages told KNS that some farmers have planted poplar trees in productive paddy land from the last few weeks when the sowing season started.
The residents said that unscrupulous farmers taking advantage of the uneasy situation prevailing in the district have been planting poplar trees which makes the paddy land of other farmers barren.
“When one farmer in any area plants poplars in his land, the nearby plots of land became barren,” the farmers told KNS.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The residents said that some farmers are plating these tress and harming the agriculture activity of others who use the land for cultivation of paddy and oats.
The residents blamed the revenue officials for showing laxity in acting against these farmers.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Neeraj Kumar told KNS that they administration has completely banned the turning of agriculture land into non-agricultural purposes.
“I will send the Tehsildar concerned to inspect the area and take action against the farmers who go against the ban order,” Kumar told KNS. (KNS)
