Defence Fire Staff Of Army Ordnance Corps Celebrates 77th National Fire Service Day In Karnah Kupwara

The Def FF crew of 28 Mtn DOU organised 77th National Fire Service day at Nachiyan helipad. The event saw participation of 30 families of Nachiyan and Hajinar villages. Lecture cum demonstration was org by the FF Crew to educate Civ on the aspects of household fire and methods to prevent the same. The target audience was women and youth as they can play a major role in minimising the household fire. The event was a huge success and was welcomed by the civil.

The exercise also aimed at training the youth force of the region and make them understand how to react during a fire incident and manage under crisis. People's actively involved themselves followed by a question and answer session to clarify their queries.The fire crew from respective counterparts also shared their know how on tech equipments and first hand  experiences on fire incidents. The event has opened up avenues for future synergy and has been a great force multiplier in the region with respect to fire fighting.

On 14th April 2021, the 77th National Fire Service Day is observed at every Fire Service Station  to remember the sacrifice of the 71 Firemen in the Rescue operation of the Freighter SS fort Stikine at the Victoria Dock in the Bombay port following the Fire Prevention Week or Fire Service Week (FSW) from 14th April to 20th April.

On this day in 1944,The bombay explosion in the Bombay port resulting in the deaths of 71 firemen and around 1,300 people to commemorate this jawans this day is observed as a National Fire Service Day.

The Day is observed by laying wreaths on the"Martyrs Memorial Column" at the Fire Force Training Ground and observing two minutes silence in memory of the firemen martyrs who died on duty saving lives.

The National Safety Council (NSC) has promoted the FSW Campaign since 1999 to create awareness among the employees and the public on the safety measures using promotional materials like pocket guides, posters and banners.(KNS)
