Srinagar, Dec 28 (KNS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday condemned the house detention of political leaders, activists and student representatives who were scheduled to support a peaceful protest on the reservation issue today.

In a message posted on X, the Mirwaiz said the government’s “default response” to every issue related to Kashmir has been the use of force, even when concerns are raised peacefully.

He said the students protesting were anxious about a reservation policy they see as unfair and a threat to their future.
“The default response of those in authority to every issue in or about Kashmir is use of force, even if it is a peaceful sit-in by anxious students demanding justice,” Mirwaiz said.

He also said that public concerns must be solved quickly through talks and policy fixes, not restrictions or punishment.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“This is a very important concern of people that needs redressal without delay, not reprisal, before it blows up,” he added.

Mirwaiz said the elected government in J&K has a responsibility to protect democratic rights and address youth concerns at every level, including with New Delhi.

He also raised the issue of harassment faced by Kashmiris in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other parts of India, saying the government must take it up seriously.

“The matter of harassment that Kashmiris outside J&K are facing also needs to be seriously taken up and addressed by the elected government and the Centre,” he further said.(KNS)
