Srinagar, May 23 (KNS); On the 661st death anniversary (Urs) of Hazrat Amir-e-Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA), Kashmir's chief cleric Dr Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday said Kashmiri people remain eternally grateful to the great spiritual benefactor for transforming their lives with the light of Islamic faith.
In a statement issued here, the Mirwaiz said Shah-e-Hamadan not only guided Kashmir towards Islam but also enriched the region's cultural and economic life through arts, crafts and traditions of dignified livelihood associated with his mission and companions.

"His spiritual, cultural and civilisational legacy continues to guide Kashmir," the Mirwaiz said, adding that the people of the valley are deeply indebted to the Sufi saint.
Dr Mirwaiz prayed for the elevation of the saint's spiritual rank and urged people to uphold his noble teachings.
The Urs of the revered 14th-century Persian Sufi scholar, who is widely credited for spreading Islam in Kashmir, was observed with religious fervour across the valley. (KNS)
