Srinagar, Mar 02 (KNS):District Development Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza Monday kick started the Chinar plantation drive by planting Chinars in the premises of Mini Secretariat Bandipora.
He was accompanied by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Floriculture Officer Tariq Habib and other senior officers of the district.
On the occasion DDC Bandipora urged the Panchayat representatives of the district to plant at least twenty Chinars in each Panchayat during the plantation drive.
DDC said the drive aims at saving these rare trees and that it is responsiblityy of every citizen to cooperate with the government and help to protect these rare trees, which has huge botanical potential and cultural value in the Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said the Department of Floriculture has targeted to plant 1000 chinars in the district while it will also distribute Chinars in Schools and Panchayat members which will be simultaneously planted during the drive. Mirza urged heads of the educational institutions, especially students to plant chinar saplings in their schools and colleges.
On the occasion Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad said that the district administration contemplates to develop a Chinar Bagh in the district. He said the administration will soon identify a location that will be developed as a Chinar Bagh.( KNS).
