DC Srinagar flags off Mobile Veterinary Units for vaccination of livestock against Foot and Mouth disease

 
SRINAGAR JANUARY 03 (KNS):- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Saturday kick-started the 7th round of vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) by flagging off mobile veterinary units from the DC Office premises here.

The district-wide vaccination drive is being carried out by the District Sheep Husbandry Department with the objective of protecting livestock and strengthening disease prevention mechanisms across Srinagar. The mobile veterinary units will visit villages, urban localities and remote areas of the district to vaccinate livestock at the doorstep, making the process accessible and convenient for farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the importance of timely vaccination to safeguard livestock from Foot and Mouth Disease, which causes heavy economic losses to farmers and livestock owners. He stressed that the administration is committed to ensuring 100 percent vaccination coverage of the sheep population and other susceptible animals in the district.

The DC directed the concerned to ensure proper planning, monitoring, and execution of the vaccination campaign so that every livestock pocket is covered efficiently.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also appealed to livestock owners to extend full cooperation to veterinary teams and ensure their animals are vaccinated during the drive.

The Deputy Commissioner added that the 7th round of FMD vaccination is part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to control animal diseases and enhance livestock health, productivity, and farmers’ livelihoods.

He  was informed that under the campaign, mobile veterinary units will reach farmers at their doorsteps, providing free-of-cost vaccination services to about 3,400 farming families across Srinagar district, covering nearly 58,000 sheep and goats and 28,000 cattle.

 District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr, Mohammad Ashraf, Officials of Sheep Husbandry Department, Veterinary Officers, Field staff and other concerned were present during the launch of the vaccination drive.(KNS)
