Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNS): Day after cracks developed in Civil Secretariat here due to an earthquake that hit Kashmir and parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan, government Tuesday issued a safety certificate declaring the secretariat building safe, as employees were reluctant to enter the building and demanded written assurance from the government.
Soon after the civil secretariat opened today for the day’s work, employees of the complex led by their union leader Ghulam Rasool Mir raised slogan in favour of their demands which included that the government should come clear about the safety of the secretariat building.
As the employees began raising slogans in favour of their demands, the government swung into action. Chief Engineer Public Works (R&B), Kashmir, Satish Razdan was called in to inspect the building. As team of expert engineers led by Razdan inspected the secretariat building and issued a safety certificate which declared the building as safe.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelLater the certificate was handed over the employee leaders by the Rural Development Department minister Haq Khan, and employees called off the strike and resumed their normal work.
“The inspection of civil secretariat building Srinagar post earthquake on 26/10/2015 has revealed that the building is safe and there is no likelihood of any untoward incident on account of collapse etc,” reads the safety certificate signed by Razdan, which was submitted to the office of Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Public Works (R&B) department today
The Minister also assured the secretariat employee’s union president their other demands too will be addressed soon after the opening Darbar Move. “In case their issues are not resolved after opening of Offices at Jammu, the employees will again go on strike,” union leader Mir said. (KNS)
