When majority community is not secure how can we, relocation only solution: Protestors

Srinagar, May 21 (KNS): Protests were held by the Kashmiri pandits at different places across the valley on Saturday for the tenth running day seeking justice for Rahul Bhat who was shot dead by the militants on May 12.

The protesters also demanded that all the Kashmiri pandit employees working in valley be relocated to Jammu.

Hundreds of Kashmiri pandit employees earlier in the morning gathered near Rajbagh and offered special prayers for Rahul Bhat in river Jehlum.

Later the protesters chanting slogans like 'only solution, relocation' marched towards clock tower Lal chowk where they held a sit-in.

The protesters alleged that the government has bitterly failed to ensure their safety in the valley.

"We are not feeling secure here anymore. Our only demand is the relocation and that is it," a female KP employee who was part of protest said.

Another female protester said that relocation of KP employees now remains the only solution keeping in view the situation prevailing in the valley.

"Government is telling us that we will be posted at safer places but no place seems to be safe here now. When majority community is not feeling secure how can we. Though we had many other demands but now only demand is that all the Kashmiri pandit employees be relocated," said the protester.

Hundreds of employees from minority community appointed under Prime ministers special package in 2011 are working in the valley in various departments.

Though the government at several places including Vessu in Anantnag, Shiekhpora in Budgam have constructed residential quarters for these employees but following the killing of Rahul Bhat , these employees continue to be on protest against, what they say, the failure of the government to provide them security.

Similar protest rallies by the members of minority community were held in Mattan and Vessu areas of south Kashmir.

A protester at Mattan area of Anantnag said that the government had failed the employees of the minority community.

"Their claim of Naya Kashmir has suffered a puncture. For God sake relocate us from here. We are ready to serve in any part of the country but not here. Relocation is now our only demand," he said.(KNS)
