Jammu, Apr 11 (KNS): Dalit Shoshan Mukti Munch- Jammu & Kashmir organized 191st Jayanti of Jyotirao Phule to commemorate his contribution for upliftment of downtrodden section of Indian society today at Guru Nava Dass Hall, Dogra Hall Jammu.
Phule was an Indian social activist, a thinker, anti caste social reformer, and his work in many fields like eradication of untouchability and the caste system, women education and women’s emancipation and reform of Hindu family life. People from all walks of life attended the function in a large number.
MLA from Kulgam M.Y Tarigami was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion M.Y Tarigami said that “we are celebrating Jayanti of Jyotirao Phule who was a unique social reformer in the 19th century at such a time when atrocities and discrimination against dalit, women and down trodden society of our country has been increased from the last 4 years.”
The dalit and minorities are being brutally attacked across the country, there are number of such instances like Rohit Behmulla murder case, brutally beating of Dalits in Gujrat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajastan, MP, Maharshtara etc, he said.
He also narrated the recent incident of women who was gang raped and her father was brutally beaten by the rapists and unlawfully arrested by the police and died in police custody when she lodged her complaint before the Chief Minister of Utter Pardesh.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said today our real tripute to Jyotirao Phule should be to resolute to strengthened the unity of down trodden society against the unfair caste system, discrimination against women under which millions of people have suffered since ages.
S.P.Keasr Sr. Leader of CITU said that Jyotiba Phule led the movement against the prevailing caste restriction in India, he revolted against the domination of the Brahamins and struggle for the rights of peasant and other low caste people. He was also pioneer for women’s education in India and fought for imparting education to girls throughout his life, he said. Further Kesar added that Jyotiba’s quest for providing women and girls with right to education, he was supported by his wife Savitiribhai Phule, one of the few literal women of the time, Savitri was tought to teach and write by her husband Jyotiba Phule. In the history of India first girl’s school was established on 1st January 1851 by Jyoitiba Phule and he asked his wife to teach the girls so now it is our duty to take this mission of Phule ahead by uniting all the down trodden people and women to fight against those dominating the society, he said.
