‘Had it not been these doctors, causalities would have been much more’

Srinagar, Jul 21 (KNS): While lauding doctors for their exemplary work, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Thursday said that doctors have been working tirelessly since day one of civil unrest.
Terming them real-life superheroes, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement issued to KNS said that for last two weeks doctors, nurses, paramedics and hospital staff were silently toiling round the clock to save sick and wounded.
“Working quietly behind scenes, doctors have been caring for the survivors and consoling relatives of victims following unrest that killed 48 persons and left thousands injured,” DAK president said.
He said that they were working day in and day out without proper food and beyond shift hours. “These dedicated medical personnel have been on their toes ever since victims were rushed into the hospitals. The doctors operated injured patients continuously for days without break and without sleep. They have been performing life-saving surgeries and trying to console traumatized patients and their anxious relatives,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that it was unimaginable for any health system to cope with such a magnitude of trauma, but the strong will of these brave hearts made it possible. “They risked their own lives to save lives of patients. The medical fraternity rose to the occasion,” he said.
Dr Nisar said that at SMHS and associated hospitals alone, 450 surgeries on pellet and bullet injured victims were carried out. “Majority of the surgeries were abdominal and neurosurgical followed by eye, limb and chest. Without caring for themselves, doctors preferred to stay back in hospitals and worked overtime to bring relief to victims. Had it not been these doctors, the causalities would have been much more,” he said.
He said that it was indeed a human tragedy and doctors did a splendid job. “We have seen many deaths and injuries before, but this has been much worse. This was a nightmare and in fact nightmare is an understatement,” he said. (KNS)
