Srinagar, Feb 9 (KNS): Authorities on Tuesday imposed curfew like restrictions in parts of Srinagar while rest of the Valley is observing complete shutdown on the third anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guru, who was hanged in New Delhi's Tihar Jail on this day in 2013.
The Shutdown was called by all the three factions of Hurriyat Conference, JKLF and other separatist leaders to protest the hanging of Guru.
Strict restrictions were imposed in downtown here. Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were deployed in sensitive areas of Shehr-e-Khaas, including the old city areas - Maisuma, Lal Chowk and Kral Khud, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta- to thwart the possible protests.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Traffic and civilian movement in these aeas was thin due to restrictions.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in rest parts of the Valley. Shops, offices, business establishments, educational institutions, petrol pumps, government offices and bank remained closed and public transport were off the roads.
Almost all the senior separatist leaders and their activists have been taken into preventive custody. (KNS)
