<p>Srinagar, July 17 (KNS): Strict curfew continued for the 9th day on Sunday in the Kashmir Valley, even as death toll of the civilians mounted to 41 with one more youth killed by forces in Kupwara district.<br /> Showkat Ahmad Malik, 25, was killed in clashes when they fired on protesters in Hatmulla village of Kupwara district in north Kashmir, residents of the district said.<br /> Two other persons sustained injuries and are being treated at district hospital Kupwara, witnesses said.<br /> A police spokesman in a statement issued to media on July 16 claimed that a violent mob attacked the police post at Hatmulla in Kupwara.<br /> “While dealing with the situation three people were injured. One of them later on succumbed to his injuries,” the spokesman said.<br /> He added that an “unruly mob set on fire” a police guard room at Wullar Vintage Park in Bandipora. <br /> The spokesman, however, added that the overall situation in the valley remained under control today though some incidents of stone pelting were reported.<br /> “The stray and intermittent incidents of stone pelting were reported from Pothkhah, Dangiwacha in Sopore, Hatmulla in Kupwara and Langate in Handwara.”<br /> <br /> The unrest continues for the ninth day today after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, by forces in Bumdoora village of Kokernag in Anantnag district on July 8 evening.<br /> A government spokesman on Saturday told KNS that curfew would continue to be imposed in the restive Valley till July 19 and ordered that all newspaper publications and new agencies will be stopped to publish or send bulletins for these days due to prevailing situation.<br /> A senior government official said that patients and their attendants going to hospitals will be allowed to move while people going to the airport will not face any hardship as air tickets were being treated as curfew passes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel<br /> Meanwhile, Cable television was allowed on Saturday evening after being suspended by the government for a day.<br /> “The resumption of cable television operations was allowed after the operators agreed to take off all Pakistani TV channels and two private Indian channels,” the official said.<br /> Mobile phones and internet services remained suspended in the Valley, however, only BSNL Broadband and post-paid services are being allowed to operate.<br /> Train services also remained suspended.<br /> All recruitment interviews scheduled for the next four days have been cancelled by the state public service commission (PSC). All schools, colleges and universities in the Valley have been shut down.<br /> Top Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah and others have been either placed under house arrest or taken into preventive custody to restrain them from participating in protests. Separatists have appealed the people to continue the shutdown till Monday.<br /> Three north Kashmir districts of Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara on Saturday had all communication links cut off from rest of the Valley following protests that have left at least three people dead and many others injured.<br /> All kinds of telephone lines — landline as well as mobiles — were snapped in the three districts following death of a youth in forces firing during clashes in Kupwara district.<br /> “The decision to snap telephone services was taken to prevent rumor mongering as many areas in north Kashmir have witnessed surge in mob attacks on security installations over the past two days,” a police official said. While mobile telephony is suspended across Kashmir, the broadband Internet services have also been downed in these three districts today, he said. (KNS)<br /> </p>
