Srinagar, Aug 22 (KNS): Authorities on Monday continued to impose curfew and restrictions in Kashmir for the 45th consecutive day on Monday while the reports of clashes were reported at several places during which scores of people were injured.
A top police official told KNS that curfew and restrictions were imposed in Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam and other parts of districts to thwart any possible protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir.
Reports said that protests took place after forces ransacked Gurdwara and some residential houses in Nowgam Aishmuqam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Witnesses as per reports said that while chasing a group of stone-pelters at Salia village of south-Kashmir’s Anantnag district, forces ransacked a Gurduwara and some residential houses triggering protests by both Muslims and Sikhs of the area.
Meanwhile, at least 20 persons were injured after clashes erupted between youth and forces after forces dispersed the people in the area who tried to carry out a protest rally against the civilian killings in Kashmir.
Reports quoting witnesses said that a rally came under teargas shelling at Ganawpora village of Shopian.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Tahir Saleem confirmed the incident however, showed ignorance about the exact number of casualties during the clashes.
However, witnesses informed that forces arrived in the morning and set ablaze the tent house and took away an electric generator triggering violent clashes between forces and youth during which 20 persons were injured.
Meanwhile, protests broke out in the Sopore town and adjoining areas of Arampora, Chinkipora amid curfew and shutdown in which hundreds of people participated.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Forces resorted to tear gas canisters to disperse the youth who in return pelted stones on them,” witnesses said.
At least six youth were injured after clashes broke out between forces and youth in Tekipore and Lalpora Lolab of northern frontier district Kupwara. “One among the injured identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh was shifted to SDH Sogam for treatment. He was hit by pellets in his chest and abdomen.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by Zonal Police Headquarters, the officials said that curfew was relaxed in the jurisdiction of police stations of uptown in Srinagar from 0900Hrs to 1700 Hrs including Ram Munshi Bag, Kothi Bagh, Raj Bagh, Sadder, Nowgam, Shaheed Gunj, Karan Nagar, Shergarhi and Parimpora. Curfew was also relaxed in Soura, Lal Bazar and Nigeen police stations' jurisdiction. During the relaxation hours no untoward incident was reported, markets remained open and traffic was normal on roads.
Situation remained peaceful in Srinagar, Pulwama, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Bandipore, Kupwara, Baramulla, however 5 incidents of stone pelting was reported from Budgam, Anantnag, Shopian and Sopore. These incidents were reported from Hyderpora in Budgam, Salli in Anantnag, Wathu, Gonapora in Shopian and Gulabad in Sopore.
As per a statement issued by Zonal Police Headquarters the situation across the Kashmir valley remained under control and no other untoward incident was reported. The movement of traffic on national highway and other roads remained normal. (KNS)
