50 organisations meet under the banner of AMK

Srinagar, Oct 26 (KNS): A broad based platform to promote Kashmiri language at larger level will soon become reality as the representatives of nearly 50 organisations Monday resolved to give final shape to the concept of a Cultural Confederation.
At an extraordinary meeting initiated by Kashmir’s biggest and oldest literary and cultural federation Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK), representatives of these organizations discussed threadbare the need and scope for a joint platform to safeguard the interests of Kashmiri language. Chaired by veteran poet and Gyanpeeth awardee Prof Rehman Rahi, the meeting was attended by representatives of cultural, theatre, music and literary bodies from Kashmir valley besides Chenab and Pir Panchal regions.
The participants discussed in detail the challenges being faced by the language and scored the need for a joint response to meet them. It was decided to set up a Confederation of all organisations working for promotion of language to further the agenda of safeguarding it. “The centrality of the agenda of this Confederation would be the promotion and protection of Kashmiri language,” said Prof Rahi.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAppreciating the efforts of AMK, he said that it was a healthy development to rope in people from music and theatre to thwart the onslaught of other cultures.
It was decided that the Confederation would take final shape within a month. A committee was set up under the chairmanship of President AMK Dr Shujaat Bukhari, which would draft the constitution, and the structure of the confederation, which would be finally adopted next month in Srinagar. Other members of the committee are G N Khayal, Prof Naseem Shifai, Prof Farooq Fayaz, Shahbaz Rajourvi, Manshoor Banihali, Izhar Mubashir, Bhawani Bashir Yasir, Waheed Jeelani and Ashraf Ravi. Mohammad Amin Bhat would be the member secretary of the committee.
Apart from AMK, which represented its 24 constituents, organisations from Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Doda, Banihal, Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu and Srinagar were represented in today’s meeting. (KNS)
