Vows to make trans-national spiritual traditions part of activity calendar

Embarking on a newer path, the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Tuesday organized a Qira’at (Quranic recitations) competition.
The competition had ten competitors from various parts of the State including Doda, Karnah, Shopian, Kupwara, Budgam, Banihal and Srinagar.
Esteemed Qurra (Qur’anic reciters) were invited to serve as judges for the competition including Qari Abdul Wali from Qazigund, and Qari Ghulam Rasool from Kotbalwal Jammu.
Writer Sultanul Haque Shaheedi was guest of honour at the event while the function was presided over by Mufti Muzaffar Hussain Qasmi, Sheikhul Hadees Darul Uloom Sopur.
In his address Qasmi said that Qira’at is an important part of Islamic traditions and an art as well. He said Muslims must adopt Islamic principles in their lives so as to serve the humanity in a better way.
In his inaugural remarks event coordinator, Mufti Shafeeq-ur-Rehman Khan Qasmi said that the competition was established to encourage youth to compete and excel in the field of Qur’anic recitation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Dwelling upon the purpose of the competition Shafeeq stated that such events are held to build and strengthen the relationship between Tahfeezul Qur’an and Tajweed. The latter lays focus on right pronunciation and proper rhythm.
Later prize winners were also announced for which the prize distribution ceremony shall be held on Thursday on the eve of naat competition schedule for the day. The first prize has been announced for Qari Ateequr Rehman. Second and third prizes would go to Qari Shah Mohammed and Qari Mohammed Talib respectively.
Those who participated in Qira’at competition included Qari Mohammed Mustafa, Qari Ishtiaq Ahmad, Qari Siraj Ahmad, Qari Faisal Riyaz, Qari Zafar Ahmad Manhas, Qari Suhaib Ashraf and Qari Peerzada Dawood.
A large number of lovers of Qira’at were present on the occasion. Prominent ones included Salamudin Bajad, Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq, Mehboob Nowgami, and Mehraj ud Din among others.
