Holds 3rd Planning and Monitoring Board, 22nd University Building Committee meeting
Srinagar, Jul 26 (KNS): Reiterating the role of the universities in ensuring the preservation of culture, heritage, ecology and environment, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Wednesday declared to re-designate the old campus of the College of Physical Education Ganderbal as the Green Campus.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir as per the statement issued to KNS said this while chairing the 3rd meeting of the Planning and Monitoring Board and 22nd Meeting of University Building Committee.
The members of the Planning and Monitoring Board also gave a go ahead for establishing Centre of Energy, Environmental Technology and Disaster Management.
He said the university has been successful and has received accolades from the stakeholders for holding the first Convocation of the varsity at SKICC on 4th of July, 2018, which was attended by Honourable Governor, Jammu and Kashmir, Shri. N N Vohra, National Conference Vice-President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Omar Abdullah, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India Prof. (Dr.) K. VijayRaghavan, founding Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, dignitaries and luminaries from other fields and Vice-Chancellors of several universities.
He said the university banks up on the members of the Planning and Monitoring Board for future guidance and after receiving the valuable inputs, the same are put forth before other Statutory bodies for further necessary action. Describing founding Chancellor, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee as the guiding force for the university, Prof. Mir appreciated his role in the development of the university saying that Dr. Banerjee frequently interacted with the students, faculty and scholars and people of Ganderbal.
Prof. Mir said the university is on the top as far as academic is concerned when compared with other 14 universities established with it. He however, acknowledged that the varsity is facing several challenges in raising the infrastructure and shifting the academics to the designated campus at Ganderbal, adding the details about the hiccups have been shared with the MHRD and State functionaries.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelCUK Vice-Chancellor further said that on the directions of the State government, the university administration has been shifted to DIET building Nunar and CMO building at Old district hospital Ganderbal and the Science block from Sonwar would be shifted soon to the designated site at Tulmulla, after the Pre Engineered Buildings (PEBs) are handed over to the university. One such PEB was handed over to the university on Thursday, i.e 27th of July.
He said the University Grants Commission has granted some additional positions including Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors for certain departments, adding the Commission has also granted two more departments in the School of Engineering.
Welcoming the participants, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, said that due to the guidance and support of the members of the Planning and Monitoring Board, University Building Committee and other Statutory bodies, the varsity is marching ahead on academics and other fronts. He said the valuable suggestions and advices given by the Board members for the overall progress and development of the university are adhered to in letter and spirit. Prof. Zargar said the Board is an amalgamation of experts from different specialized fields who have so far contributed immensely for the growth of the Central University of Kashmir.
Immediately after the Planning and Monitoring Board meeting, the 22nd meeting of the UBC was held at the same campus. After threadbare discussion, some of the items were approved and some other items were referred to a Select Committee to be resubmitted in next UBC scheduled to be held within two weeks. Prof. M Afzal Zargar also proposed the vote of thanks in both the meetings.
Deans of Schools, Finance Officer, CUK, Bashir Ahmad Haji experts of different fields were also present on the occasion. (KNS)
