Srinagar, Aug 14(KNS): The 144th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday organised a Tiranga Yatra through the iconic Dal Lake here as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign ahead of Independence Day.
The event was aimed at promoting patriotism, national unity and respect for the national flag.
Commandant of 144th Battalion CRPF, Madhu Bala, was the chief guest at the event. Senior officers, including 2-I-C Vikrant Singh and Deputy Commandant Anjani Kumar, besides other officers and personnel, participated in the programme.
The programme began with the National Song followed by the National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering, Bala highlighted the significance of Independence Day, the dignity of the Tricolour and the responsibilities of citizens towards the nation.
Tricolour-coloured balloons were released before Bala flagged off the Tiranga Yatra from Dal Lake.
CRPF personnel carrying the national flag proceeded through the lake on Shikaras and boats, creating a patriotic atmosphere along the designated route.
The yatra concluded at Ghat No. 13, following which participants assembled at the headquarters of the 144th Battalion, where the National Song and National Anthem were presented.
At the conclusion of the programme, Bala extended Independence Day greetings to the participants and called upon them to remain committed to safeguarding the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.
The CRPF said the yatra conveyed messages of patriotism, national pride, unity and respect for the national flag among the public on the eve of Independence Day.(KNS).
