Mass use of masks marks beginning of a new phase of social distancing

Srinagar 14 April (KNS) : The fear of unprecedented rise in the no of COVID positive
case has evokee a huge public response to the calls of distancing in
Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley as the reduced intensity of
public movement and mass use of masks was on Wednesday visible on the
ground.

Kashmir News Service Correspondents reported from several areas of Srinagar city and
major towns of Kashmir valley that people choose to stay indoors than
to throng at shopping malls and busy markets in huge nos due to the
huge spread in the ongoing second strain of COVID-19 pandemic.

"The public attendance at provisional stores and shopping malls in busy
commercial hubs of Srinagar city like Lal Chowk, Residency Road,
Jawaharnagar, Karan Nagar and adjoining localities on the first day of
holly month of Ramadhan was very thin and this goes against the
precedence because of the intensifying covid fear panicking the people
in valley.

Otherwise overcrowding at the busy commercial hubs was a
routine precedence found missing for the second consecutive year in
the holly month of Ramadhan this time" , said Mushtaq Ahmed the owner
of provisional store at Lal Chowk in city centre.

Officials also appreciated the gestures of social distancing from the people as a
senior official of district administration Srinagar told KNS " the
people are showing wisdom in paying heed to the calls for social
distancing and use of masks .

We hope that with people following COVID-19 SOPs the spread of the convid-19 pandemic can be contained within 10-15 days". With this huge public response to the government's calls
for social distancing  the measures like lockdown and imposition of
section 144 won't arise in Kashmir valley.(KNS)
