Court orders Yasin Malik's physical presence in Rubaiya Sayeed abduction case

Srinagar, Sep 21 (KNS): A special court on Wednesday ordered Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) founder Yasin Malik’s physical presence before it on October 20 for the cross-examination of Rubaiya Sayeed, sister of PDP chief mehbooba mufti, in her 1989 abduction case.

Special public prosecutor Monika Kohli said Malik attended the hearing on Wednesday via video conferencing from Delhi’s Tihar jail, where he is serving life imprisonment in a terror funding case.

"Rubaiya Sayeed was presented today at TADA court, Jammu. Her cross-examination was done, along with rest of accused. Only Yasin Malik's cross-examination is left. Yasin Malik will be called again for his cross-examination on October 20th," Kohli said.

She futher said that the Court has ordered production warrants to Tihar jail for Yasin Malik. "He'll be physically present for the hearing, as per his demands. Yasin Malik will be physically present to cross-examine in the next hearing on October 20th," the lawyer said.

On July 15 this year, Rubaiya identified four persons, including Malik. She was abducted in December 1989 when her father was the Union home minister and released in exchange for five militants.

Earlier, Malik went on a hunger strike inside the Tihar Jail in Delhi and demanded that he should be allowed to physically present himself before the court in Jammu and permitted to cross-examine Ms. Sayeed.(KNS)
