Court awards life imprisonment to Yasin Malik in ‘terror-funding case’

Srinagar, May 19 (KNS): The National Investigation Agency’s special court at Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to JKLF chief Yasin Malik in a “terror funding case” after he pleaded guilty in the case. 

 
Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that the court after hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment awarded life imprisonment to Yasin Malik.
 
NIA Special Judge, while pronouncing the judgement announced life imprisonment under section 121 IPC and section 20 of UAPA. 
 
Earlier, Malik was produced before the Patiala House Court in Delhi amid high security. 
 
The NIA had sought death penalty for Yasin Malik during the arguments in the court today over quantum of sentence. 
 
The NIA special court had convicted Yasin Malik on May 19 in the terror funding case after he pleaded guilty in the case two weeks ago.
 
Meanwhile, as per reports Yasin Malik told the court that he won’t beg for anything from the court and if Indian Intelligence agencies prove anything, he will retire from politics.
 
“I will not beg for anything. The case is before the court and I leave it to the court to decide. I will accept hanging, if proven guilty,” he told the court.
