Police orders probe, transfers SHO

In a major embarrassment to Law Secretary Muhammad Ashraf Mir, police Thursday allegedly barred him from entering his office at the civil secretariat during the chief minister’s movement.
Mir told KNS that not only he was prevented from entering his office at Secretariat gate but also SHO allegedly seized his official car bearing number- JK02BK- 1354.
He said that he reached civil secretariat gate at 9: 55 am in the morning, but was not allowed to enter into the secretariat premises by the police officer (SHO Shaheed Gunj) deputed there during CM’s movement.
“I told him that I am a Law Secretary, but the SHO did not pay any heed and did not let me go and stopped me there, citing CM’s movement as a reason. He seized my car with me sitting inside it and took it to the police station. At police station, he asked me to come out and go wherever I want,” Mir told KNS.
Sources told KNS that the soon after the incident Mir along with his law department employees protested inside the secretariat and demanded stern action against the SHO.
Sources also told KNS that Mir also met CM and apprised him about the incident.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
As the news spread, IGP Kashmir SJM Gilani rushed to the spot to pacify the agitating employees. He also met Mir and sort of apologised with him on junior cop’s behaviour.
DIG Police Central Kashmir, GH Bhat, told KNS that SHO was immediately transferred to the district police headquarter and another police official was attached to the police station. “Police did not detain Law Secretary but was asked to come out of his car after he had heated argument with police personnel on duty,” Bhat said.
Meanwhile, SSP Srinagar Amit Kumar told KNS that inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
“When CM’s motorcade moves, at that time police has to stop every other vehicle so that CM’s motorcade does not face any inconvenience. We have started inquiry into the matter regarding the Law Secretary and we are yet to know the findings,” he added.
Police sources also said that after the incident DGP, and Chief Secretary met the Law Secretary to subside the matter.
