Accuse govt of giving step motherly treatment to contractors

Demanding release of pending liability of Rs 65 crore spend on reconstructing and restoring of government buildings and flats, Central Contractors Coordination Committee (CCCC) Monday threatened to stall construction work in entire state if their due money is not released in a time bound manner by the state government.
Addressing press conference here, Chairman CCCC Haji Mohd Akbar Pall and General Secretary Farooq Ahmad Dar said that the overall liability with government towards contractors is 750 crore which has forced the contractors to face acute “financial crunch”. They said Rs 65 crore was spent by contractors to renovate, reconstruct and restore the New Secretariat, Old Secretariat, Assembly office and other offices besides banglows of ministers, VIP Houses and flats which were damaged by September 2014 floods. “The state government is giving contractors a step motherly treatment. Actually no amount has been approved to contractors by government since 2014 including that amount spent on government buildings and flats after floods,” Pall said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The contractors alleged government of adopting a dual policy under which contractors are asked to do construction work of government buildings and “then sleep over the bills and forcing contractors to face huge financial losses.”
They contractors added that from May 3, 2015 they have stopped all work on government buildings and flats in protest, but government is unmoved. “Now we are planning to launch a state wide protest and stall work on every construction project if our money is not released immediately,” they said.
They added that contractors from Kashmir and Jammu region will converge outside Civil Secretariat in Srinagar and go on an indefinite silent protest outside it. Contractors from Jammu said that they will come along with their families and stage a sit-in outside civil secretariat in Srinagar. (KNS)
