Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS): Several consumers of central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Friday alleged that they are being denied in getting ration from deposts by concern officials who demand Aadhar enrollment in unfavorable weather conditions.

Talking to KNS, consumers alleged that storekeepers at ration depots have stopped providing ration to them. "Once we are approaching to ration depots, the officials on duty there are demanding Aadhar which is impossible in present weather conditions when normal life has completely been disrupted due to snowfall", they said.

They added that the store keepers are asking for Aadhar card in lieu of ration. "How come we make Aadhar at this juncture. Government then should have established Aadhar centres so that people do easily avail the facility", they said.

They alleged that CAPD has curtailed the ration suppy to Srinagar district by 10 thousand quintals and now to justify this injustice the deparment is damanding Aadhar.

When KNS contated Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Bashir, he refuted the allgations. "We have not decreased quota to Srinagar. Allegtions are baseless", he said.

He added that CAPD is providing ration to consumers as per the 2011 census. "We have asked consumers to submit their Aadhar from a long time but unfortunately no heed is being paid to our directives", he added.

He further said that most complaints about no submission of Aadhar comes from Srinagar which is a capital of J&K. "Let you check the southern parts. In Shopian we have minor complaints there. Around 95 percent consumers have submitted their Aadhar n Shopian where internet often remains shut. Why people of Srinagar taking it for granted", Dir CAPD said.

He urged consumers to submit Aadhar card to their respective ration depots so that the supply of ration to be facilitated smoothly. (KNS)
