Conscious, award-winning people should return their honours in protest: Shah

Appeals Opposition members in Assembly to resign, join people’s movement

Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS): The incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Saturday appealed the conscious class and government award winning persons to return their honours in protest over the continuous state-sponsored oppression on people.
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah appealed the conscious class which includes writers, columnists, journalists, social activists, doctors, engineers, and others to return their honours as a mark of protest against the civilian killings and blinding of youth during the ongoing anti-India uprising.
“Wherever such state-sponsored oppression takes place in the world, the intellectual and conscious class doesn’t act as mute spectators but register their protest by returning the awards the respective states have conferred upon them. By doing so, a strong message will be given to India,” he said.
“The award winning persons must realize that the right of self-determination for which we are struggling guarantees a bright future for even their children. Every section of the society has contributed to the freedom movement; the conscious class is duty-bound to fulfill its responsibility,” he added.
Shah said the award-winning personalities in India can lead the way in this regard by pressurizing its government to put an end to bloodshed in the region, stop arms race, and strive for eradicating poverty. “Only in a peaceful atmosphere can we find solutions to issues like poverty and unemployment,” he said.
Shabir Ahmad Shah appealed the Opposition leaders in State Assembly including Dr Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Mohammad Mir, Hakeem Yasin, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Er Rasheed, and others to resign from the Assembly in order to pressurize the Indian government.
“If Opposition leaders too think that Kashmir issue needs to be resolved then what stops them to join the people’s movement.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIf they are really grieved over the recent killings and maiming of people, then why not pressurize the government of India together,” he said.
The DFP chairman also hailed the resolve of minorities particularly the Sikh community saying they stood shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brethren in hard times and proved that they are serious regarding the resolution of Kashmir issue.
Thanking the Sikh community, Shah expressed hope that people of Jammu, Leh, and Kargil also remain committed with the freedom movement. “The freedom movement is of all those who are the indigenous inhabitants of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. All the parties (regions and religions) will be taken on board while finding a resolution to the longstanding dispute,” he said.
He also reminded the Kashmiri Pandits that Kashmiris’ freedom movement is not against the unity of any nation or any group but is a struggle towards the resolution of an internationally acknowledged dispute. He said Kashmiri Pandits should cooperate with regards to finding solution to the issue.
Shah assured the Muslims of Jammu that Kashmiri people are on their back and that they need not worry about anything. He reiterated his appeal to people to follow the programme issued by joint resistance leadership in letter and spirit.
Commenting on the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Bhopal wherein he expressed his viewpoint over the 2014 floods in Kashmir, Shah said during that calamity, the government was nowhere to be seen and people helped each other including the Indian army.
“It is also known to everyone that Indian army rescued only its own people and some bihari labourers while as locals did a job that set an example,” Shah said. (KNS)
