Congress will continue fight for statehood, border development: Tariq Karra

Lolab May 17 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Sunday presided over a day-long political convention in the border area of Lolab, asserting that the Congress party played a key role in the development of border residents without any discrimination.

Addressing party workers, Karra slammed the Centre for what he called an “assault on public rights” and an “unjustified delay” in restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He alleged the BJP-led government’s approach towards J&K was “insensitive and unresponsive”.

“The Centre’s decision to unilaterally degrade the erstwhile J&K state and divide it into two Union Territories shows the BJP government’s desperation to demean and demoralise people,” Karra said. He reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to fight for restoration of complete statehood under its indigenous movement, ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’, which has been taken to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Karra also urged party leaders and workers to ensure the successful conduct of the second phase of the ‘Sangthan Srijan Abhiyan’, stressing that booth-level committees must be strengthened in letter and spirit.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Lashing out at the voter deletion exercise, CLP Leader and AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir described the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as “unethical” and an “assault on genuine voters”. Citing the recently concluded Bengal elections, Mir claimed the SIR exercise had turned the elections in favour of the BJP and cautioned workers to gear up to defeat it in J&K.

“People in J&K are facing tax terrorism, GST, toll taxes, and in return they get unemployment and price rise. Not a single people-friendly measure has been taken by the government,” Mir said, adding that Congress will vigorously fight to safeguard the democratic rights of genuine voters.

MLA Adv Irfan Hafeez Lone, DCC President Haji Farooq Mir, and other senior leaders including Nissar Ahmad Mandoo and Fayaz Ahmad Mir also addressed the convention. The leaders congratulated Haji Farooq Mir for the successful convention and urged him to organise similar workers’ meetings in every assembly segment of the district. (KNS)
