Srinagar August 20:(KNS) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Friday paid floral tributes to Former Prime Minister Shri.Rajiv Gandhi on his 77th Birth anniversary, hailing his great contribution in Nation building.

JKPCC in a meeting of Senior Party Leaders and workers held at Srinagar Party Office remembered Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, paying floral tributes to Former Prime Minister on his 77th birth anniversary.

The meeting was chaired by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Ghulam Ahmad Mir. Vice President and former MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Ex. MLC Bashir Ahmad Magrey,Ex. MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani, General Secretary Surinder Singh Channi and various other Party functionaries joined  Party President(Mir) in paying floral tributes to Former Prime Minister and also spoke on the occasion

Remembering Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, JKPCC President Ghulam Ahmad Mir hailed Former Prime Minister for his vision and leadership qualities and said the deceased was a man of development, who always remained concerned and committed to the inclusive development of Nation, his time as Prime Minister were golden years in which India touched new heights in respect of education, rural development, computer science, voting rights to 18 years age group and  various other revolution measures.

Mir said Rajiv Gandhi gifted Panchayat Raj System to Nation aiming to develop rural people at grass roots level, which turned out to be a milestone in the development of rural and distant areas in the country especially rural people.

After assuming office as Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi tried to liberalize the country’s economy by providing incentives to make private production profitable. Subsidies were given to corporate companies to increase industrial production especially durable goods, which was a revolutionary measure on the part of Former Prime Minister.

Referring to the foreign policy of Rajiv Gandhi, Mir said he was considered as an ideologue of Congress Party for his vision for world order. The whole gamut of Rajiv Gandhi’s foreign policy was geared making India strong, independent and self-reliant in the front ranks of the Nations of the world, he tried his best to balance his foreign policy, Mir said.

During Rajiv Gandhi’s time in office public sector, tele-communication, MTNL, VSNL were greatly developed, he revolutionized telecommunication department. Many years before telephone was considered thing for use of rich, but this credit goes to the credit of Rajiv Gandhi for making it accessible to all the rural population after introduction of PCOs in rural and distant areas across the country.

The National shall continue to remain indebted to Rajiv Ji for his immense contribution to wellbeing of the people and development of the Nation, JKPCC President said.

On this occasion Mir quoted Rajiv Gandhi’s golden words “Development is not about factories, damas and roads. Development is about people. The goal is material, cultural and spiritual fulfillment for the people. The human factor is of supreme value in development: Rajiv Gandhi).

Nation has lost a great and visionary in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, who will be always remembered for his vision and great contribution he made in Nation building. Mir said
