Chandigarh, June 25 (KNS): BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh today strongly condemned the Congress for murdering the democracy on June 25 by imposing emergency in 1975. He said the June 25 was the blackest day in the democratic history of our country when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had suspended all human rights and had put lakhs of people behind the bars. It not only brought world-wide shame for the country but also set a horrible example of dictartorship in the garb of democracy.
Chugh said for almost 21 months an atmosphere of terror and fear prevailed in the country where nobody could say anything against the government.
He said the most gruesome attack was done on the media as more than 327 journalists were imprisoned under MISA and more than 3,000 newspapers were shut down. While complete censorship was imposed in the country as many as seven foreign journalists were also expelled from the count.
A large number of newspapers were starved due to the ban on advertisements on them. The attack was also equally fierce on the cinema industry where many artists had to pay heavy price for not toeing the line of the government.(KNS)
