Srinagar, June 22 (KNS): Opposition Congress party Wednesday created uproar in the Lower House over alleged misuse of power by a ruling BJP minister by threatening a government official and demanded action against the minister.
When the proceedings began in Question Hour in Lower House, Congress legislative party leader and MLA Leh, Nawang Rigzin Jora stood up from and created pandemonium, seeking immediate action against the minister.
Jora waved a copy of an English daily that had reported that a senior government officer, Sunil Kapahi, has sought police protection and registration of an FIR against Minister for Transport Sunil Sharma for threatening him.
Supported by other Congress MLAs, Jora said the minister was misusing his power to benefit his supporters.
He told the Speaker to direct the government to check its minister from threatening the government officers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Jora told the Speaker to direct the police to register an FIR against the said minister.
“The police, so far, has not registered an FIR against the said Minister. Speaker I request you to direct the government to refrain from threatening the government officials on one pretext or another. Further the police should immediately register an FIR against the minister,” he said.
Jora was later joined by the legislators from the National Conference who also sought action against the accused minister.
Later, the copy of the newspaper was handed over to the speaker and he asked the protesting legislators to calm down to allow proceedings of the House. (KNS)
