Srinagar April 24 (KNS): Congress today celebrated National Panchayat Raj Day in view of the 28 anniversaries of the 73rd and 74th amendment of the constitution in India, describing it as a great initiative of Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.The Party also said the 73rd amendment of the constitution came into force on 24th April 1993, subsequently, 74th amendment was implemented on Ist June 1993 to ensure inclusive development of poor and downtrodden people living in the country through three tire Panchayat Raj System introduced in the country by Former Prime Minister aiming to bring the development at the doorsteps of the people.
As per the statement issued to KNS,J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and Ex. MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar addressed a party function at Dangerpor Sopore in Baramulla District, in which prominent party leaders and workers participated.
Speaking on the occasion Haji Ab. Rashid Dar highlighted the significance of the three tire panchayat Raj system in the country, which was gifted to the Nation by the Former Prime Minister, aiming to ensure empowerment of people, besides ensuring 33% women reservation, besides SCs/STs in all three tires of the Panchayat Raj System, he said.
DCC President Baramulla Fayaz Ahmad Mir, DDC Member Shahjehan Dar, BDC Chairman Mir Iqbal, Abdul Rashid Dar (Sangrama) and others also spoke on this occasion and highlighted the role of panchayats at grassroots level.
District Congress Committee Anantnag celebrated National Panchayat Raj Day at Chattergul area of Shangus in Anantnag District. Ex. MLA & DCC President Gulzar Ahmad Wani presided over the function, in which party leaders and workers celebrated the National Panchayat Raj Day and saluted Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for his great services to the Nation.
Wani said development at grassroots through panchayats, 33% women reservation etc were the great achievements that the country witnessed under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi, who will always be remembered for his dedication and vision.
Addressing a similar function at Naristan in Tral area of Pulwama District JKPCC General Secretary Surinder Singh Channi said that three tire Panchayat Raj System played a very significant role in the overall development of people living in villages and other far-flung areas, gifted by Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to people.
PCC General Secretary hailed the great contribution of Rajiv Gandhi to the overall development of the country on this occasion PYC General Secretary Manpreet Singh, Sarpanchs, Panchs and other party workers were present on this occasion.
District Congress Committee, Srinagar celebrated National panchayat Raj Day at the Srinagar Party office. DCC President Abdul Gani Khan, who presided over the function briefed the participants about the three tire Panchayat Raj System and said it is the Panchayats, which are mandated to play a crucial role in the development of people at the grassroots.
Senior Leader Mir Ruvais termed the Panchayat Raj system as baby of the Congress Party, saying that Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has rendered great services to the Nation.
Those who participated in the function included General Secretary PCC Shameema Iqbal, Hilal Ahmad Wani, Gh. Mohd Sheikh, Zahid Bashir, Riyaz Misgar, Saira, Muzaffar Shah, Zulfar Qureshi, Javed Ahmed, Haleem Khan, Gh. Hassan, Rameez Ahmad and Rahila Jan.
DCC President Bandipora Imtiyaz Parray while addressing Party Leaders and workers at Hajin described Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi a man of development and said Rajiv Ji has rendered a great service to Nation by introducing Panchayat Raj System, besides the 73rd and 74th amendment in constitution played crucial in the developmental of people in the village at grassroots level, whereby 33% women reservation was ensured.
On this occasion DDC Member Farzil Ahmad, Sarpanchs & Panchs also addressed.
Addressing a similar function at Ganowpora Arshi in Shopian District, Congress leader Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday hailed the three tire Panchayat Raj System gifted by Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to the people and termed it as a milestone in the inclusive development of the country and people as well.
Congress Leader Muneer Ahmad Mir also addressed a similar function in Lolab area of Kupwara district in which Congress leaders and workers celebrated the National Panchayat Raj Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Muneer Ahmad Mir laid emphasizes over strengthening the panchayats further and said any move to undermine the authority of PRIs must be defeated.
The National Panchayat Raj Day celebration was also held at Samerbug area of Budgam District, which was presided over by Congress Leader Showket Ahmad Malik, who highlighted the role of Panchayats in the development of people at the grassroots level.
District Congres Committees Ganderbal and Kulgam also celebrated National Panchayat Raj Day and vowed to work for strengthening PRI.
The DCC Presidents highlighted the importance of the three-tier Panchyat Raj System hailing the Former Prime Minister for gifting it to the Nation.(KNS)
