Srinagar, July 21 (KNS): Congress team headed by JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir attended the all party meeting convened over the prevailing Kashmir situation here today in thorough discussions were held over the current situation in Kashmir valley during the past few days.
JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir after conclusion of the meeting stated that apart from discussing the prevailing grim situation, the meeting also held broader discussions on the issue of forward movement towards addressing the Kashmir Problem.
In this direction he stated that initiatives of UPA under Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh came under discussion, thereby, different working groups were constituted, who have submitted their recommendation on various aspects of the problem including recommendations of Justice Sagheer Committee.
The meeting felt that in furtherance of these initiatives the recommendations of the working group need to be examined thoroughly to explore the possibility of way forward towards addressing Kashmir issue.
The team comprised of CLP Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, Sr. Vice President Shamlal Sharma, MLC & Vice President Gulam Nabi Monga.
The Congress Party while debating the current unrest prevailing in the Valley expressed serious concern over the loss of precious lives and injuries to thousands, besides damages caused to property, The Party extended support to Govt for restoration of peace and urged that killings must stop first, besides use of excessive force on protestors must also stop.
Speaking in the all party meeting PCC Chief stated there were many factors responsible for the outburst that led to volatile situation in the Valley. The anger among the masses against the wrong and anti-people polices of the Central and State Govt, besides the failure of the Govt to reach out to the people and the failure to fulfill the promises made with the people in agenda of alliance , besides causalities in the backdrop of the protests added more anger to the people.
Expressing dismay over the current unrest, PCC Chief told the meeting that Congress Party is making serious efforts to restore peace and confidence of the people. He assure that Congress Party will continue to remain steadfast in restoration of peace
He said Congress Party will support any move of the Govt that will restore sense of security among the people and ensure their safety with full honour and dignity.
Among other important suggestions made by the Party in All party meeting included, holding of regular meetings to discuss and debate the situations in the State, taking place from time to time, should continue, besides other issues concerning people and state should find a central place in the Govt, besides Govt should facilitate political persons to reach out to the people in every district.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Adequate compensation must be provided to families who lost their dear ones. Those people who have been left seriously wounded should also be provide compensation. Govt should also order time bound probe into the killings and ensure that personnel found guilty be brought to book, as per law
The Congress demanded that a special session of the Legislature be called to discuss the prevailing situation in the State.
A monitoring committee should be constituted at each district level involving all political and religious leaders, headed by DC to reach out to the people. PCC Chief asked the Chief Minister to take measure for constituting such Committee, very immediately.
The Party said that it is an appropriate time to discuss the main issues concerning the State in all regions, as that will also help in restoring confidence of the people in the democratic process.
The Congress Party urged that killings must be stopped, besides putting hold on the use of pellet guns and excessive use of force on protestors. SOP must be followed strictly as per the latest Supreme Court guide lines.
The commitments made with the people in agenda of alliance should be fulfilled, he said.
The trust deficit is increasing and governance part is invisible. Congress party urged that grass root level institutions should not be undermined or used for personal benefit. Involvement of people in the democratic process must be ensured,
The Congress Party urged that of 7th pay commission should be implemented, besides engagement of unemployment youth in the developmental and Political process.
The party also stressed that protection to minorities must be ensured.
Pertinently, Congress had demanded an all party meeting at the earliest to discuss the Kashmir situation when the Central leaders of the Party including Incharge General Secretary Ambika Soni and Senior Leader and Former Union Minister Salman Khursheed visited Kashmir and held detailed interactions with the Party Cadres to get feedback about the prevailing situation.
