Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Congress Pradesh Committee President G A Mir on Sunday said that the Congress party will always walk on the footsteps of Indira Gandhi and will unite nation instead of dividing the communities.

G A Mir, while paying tributes to Indira Gandhi on her 37th death anniversary and recaled her contribution to national security, economy and foreign policy.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the eventMir said that they had organized the event to remember the contribution of Indira Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel towards the country and the party pays rich tributes to both these leaders as they have always made the country united.

"Indira Gandhi was the Iron Lady of India. During her tenure as PM, she has always contributed her efforts towards the weaker sections of the population including minorities, youth, women and other people who live below the poverty line," he said.

He said he feels that her great initiative was nakati program which was a mission to help the economically weaker sections of the country. "Congress party will always carry forward the legacy of Indira Gandhi to contribute towards the rejuvenation of economically weaker sections. The people of the country have now understood that divide and ruly policy wont do anything better to the nation. People have come forward to support the age old policies of Congress."

Mir said that on this day, he on behalf of the whole Congress party appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that they should support the party as it believes in brotherhood and unity and Congress has always framed people friendly policies for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We don’t believe in oppression and force. Our party has always been committed to the development of business, tourism, horticulture sectors of J&K. Definitely in future also we will come up with the policies which will serve the people to the best of their interests," he said.

Talking about the recent arrests of students, G A Mir said that ports is above religion and everything else. "I appreciate that the captain of Indian Team wished and appreciated the Pakistani players even after losing the match. That’s called sportsmanship and that might be present in many people of the country. Even our Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted and appreciated the Pakistani team. So why is so much anger against those students and employees who cheered for the Pakistani team?," he asked.

"I don’t think that such strict actions are to be needed for just appreciating another country’s victory in a game of cricket," he said. (KNS)
