CM Omar Questions How Terrorists Reached ‘Once Peaceful’ Areas

J&K CM asks “how long will this process continue”, noting that regions free of terror before 2015 are now seeing incidents.

Jammu, Feb 04 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday raised a series of questions regarding the security situation following a recent encounter in Udhampur, asked how terrorists had infiltrated an area that had previously been free of terrorism and questioned how long such operations would continue.

His remarks came after the Army reported killing three terrorists in two separate gunfights in Udhampur and Kishtwar districts on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, according to the agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), said, “The process is still going on. They were killed. But where did they come from? How did they reach Udhampur? Since when were they there? And how long will this process continue?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”

He highlighted a perceived gap between official assurances and the ground reality. “We were told that after 2019, this process would stop. But now it has started again. It is not stopping. On the contrary, we are witnessing these incidents in areas that were completely free from terrorism before 2015,” he said.

Chief Minister Omar emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident's origins. “Now, how did they reach Udhampur? Since when? We will have to find answers to these questions,” he stated.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Army claimed to have killed two terrorists in Udhampur district, while in a separate gunfight in Kishtwar, they claimed to have eliminated another terrorist. (KNS)
