CLUJ held awareness online session on stress management, mental well-being

Srinagar,25 May (KNS): Department of Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu organised a Virtual Awareness Interactive Session on Stress Management and Mental Well being for the student and teaching fraternity dedicated to the theme, Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.

The interactive deliberations aimed to bring together key stakeholders to spread awareness among students and the teaching fraternity in response to the Covid 19 outbreak and bring greater understanding, helping them to stay informed and healthy thereby answering all related questions with regard to their well-being.

About 150 students and teaching faculty from Constituent Colleges, PGI Schools of CLUJ and other colleges participated in the event. Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu inaugurated the event exhorting that in these unprecedented times the counselling of experts can motivate our learners towards handling stress and managing time in a productive manner.

He asserted that Cluster university through such programmes is offering a platform to our faculty, young learners and also people from civil society to clear their misconceptions and other health queries.

Dr Chand Trehan, Director CARE, North Eminent Free Lance Psychological counsellor and Dr Monica Langeh, Emergency Physician at Max HealthCare New Delhi were the Keynote speakers. Dr Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare CLUJ formally welcomed the participants and asserted that we all need to follow the guidelines of social distancing and hygiene to effectively deal with the disease but at the same time, in addition to the vaccine of Covishield or Covaxin which create antibodies, the voice vaccine of friendship and video calling our dear ones also acts as an antibody in these turbulent times.

Dr Trehan in her illuminating deliberations exhorted the young learners to face the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic by following the 3 mantra solution- Mindfulness, staying positive and having faith in God.

She added that we are facing a lot of stress, resulting in panic/anxiety attacks, sleep disorder and many more mental health problems. It's time to actually face the challenge by managing stress with deliberation and channelizing our energies. Yoga, creative visualization, nature connect, breathing exercises, following a hobby and above all staying emotionally connected with near and dear ones is the key to staying motivated and mentally healthy.
Dr Monika Langeh dwelt in detail about altered daily routines, financial pressures and social isolation brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. People with substance use disorders, notably those addicted to tobacco or opioids, are likely to have worse outcomes if they get COVID-19 because these addictions can harm lung function and weaken the immune system, causing chronic conditions such as heart and lung diseases which increase the risk of serious complications from COVID-19. She advised students to follow the 4 mantras, A good physical and mental health routine, Time management, Covid appropriate behaviour, vaccination awareness & Mucormycosis(Black Fungus) awareness.

Prof. Bhupinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Controller Examinations, Principals of Constituent Colleges, Deans of Faculties, Coordinators, Faculty from colleges and universities, scholars and students,  and people from civil society attended the event.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Revika Arora, Cultural Coordinator CLUJ who also gave a formal vote of thanks. Dr Rakesh Gupta from GGM Science College, Dr Kuldeep Raina, Cultural Coordinator were the tech hosts, and Assistant Deans, Dr Maansi Sharma, Prof. Sudesh Kumar, Dr Javed and Prof. Shamim Rather were instrumental in organising the event.(KNS)
