PIL seeking deferment of exams dismissed

Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir High Court Thursday dismissed the public litigation interest (PIL) filed by JK Students Welfare Association, seeking postponement of class 10 and 12 exams till March 2017.
The court observed that Association of petitioner was not registered.
Jahangir Iqbal, additional advocate general who was representing the state, told court that the president of the Association, as per Association records, has been elected by 82 students. “So, he cannot represent the thousands of students.”
The court sources said that the after the bench comprising chief JusticeN. Paul Vasanthakumar and AM Magrey dismissed the PIL, the petitioner pleaded to withdraw his PIL which was granted.
The Association in its petition had pleaded that government be ordered to take steps for completing syllabus of students. The students body also seeks directions to complete practical work in the classes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The petitioner also seeks directions to the government for making the situation conducive for exams. The Association pleads that there have been only 84 working days in the academic session in which students have completed not more than 40 % of syllabus.
“In 2014 when worst floods hit Kashmir only 7 % schools were affected but having Assembly elections in sight, the government deferred exams till March 2015. Due to prevailing situation the government has written to Election Commission to defer Anantnag by-polls but is hell bent to conduct exams. It appears that the state is more concerned for smooth conduct of polls but has made examination a point of prestige by intending to use the students and examination for scoring political points,” the students had pleaded.
