Srinagar, Jun 25 (KNS): Clashes erupted between youth and forces in Maisuma area of Srinagar after police foiled the sit-in organized by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).
Locals said that police dispersed the protesters including JKLF chief by firing tear smoke shells.
Soon after the police foiled the sit-in, the youth took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans. “Police resorted to tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters who were throwing stones on them,” reports said.
Pertinently, a spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Maisuma area of Srinagar against the detention of a local youth who was arrested by the police a few months back.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
All the shops and business establishments are closed while the private vehicles are off the roads.
The protesters mostly youth burnt tyres on the mid of the road while demanding an immediate release of Ashiq Hussain alias (Ashqee Kaala) who was detained by the police a few months ago.
The protesters told KNS that police slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on Ashiq and are planning to shift him to Kot bhalwal jail. “The PSA slapped on him should be revoked and should be immediately released,” he said. (KNS)
