Directed Administration to file status report

Handwara, Mar 31 (KNS): In an effort to bring social justice to public on their door steps, Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Handwara Mohammad Ashraf Bhat today issued directions to the forest department and local administration to explaining their position vis-a-vis the wild forest fire spread over the top of Chogal Forests of the Kandi belt and the measures taken by the local administration in this behalf. The bench was hearing an application filed by concerned group of volunteers including Adv Gh Nabi Khan, Adv Mir Imran. The applicants have moved the application agitating the official apathy on part of local administration. They have also submitted that the administration is in a deep slumber and have left the first fire unattended. They have also expressed their deep concern that if the concerned authorities failed to take appropriate actions within the time a major portion of our flora and fauna will get devastated.
The concerned volunteers said that impacts of fire can be devastating to human communities and forest ecosystems.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIn the longer term forest fire can badly affect the supply of environmental services necessary for the well-being of local communities, threaten the survival of endangered species.
They further added that this kind of exploitation has destroyed and degraded much of the Earth’s natural forests. In fact, we’ve already lost half of global forest land. Losing these vital ecosystems is displacing communities, threatening the habitats of rare and endangered species, and spewing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To avoid further consequences, we urgently need to protect what is left.
Chief judicial magistrate Handwara who is also Chairman of Tehsil legal services authority today directed the Administration to file the status report and facilitate the volunteers besides forest officials in order to bring the fire into control. (KNS)
