Srinagar, Aug 2 (KNS): One civilian was killed while another was critically injured in Lethpora in Pulwama district when the personal security officer of Additional District Magistrate Ramban, Babu Ram, fired on protesters in Lethpora in Pulwama district on Srinagar-Jammu Highway.
The ADM was on way to Ramban when his Scorpio was asked by the protesters to stop on Tuesday evening.
Witnesses told KNS Farooq Ahmad Kuchay,32, son of Ghulam Nabi Kuchay was killed by police security guard of the ADM when he fired fried in his head from inside the Scorpio in which the official was travelling.
Farooq is a truck driver who was to be married next month. He had returned home yesterday, while Suhail Ahmad Wani son of Ali Muhammad Wani has been critically injured and has been referred to SKIMS.
Witnesses said the personnel security officer of the ADM fired on the protesters when he sensed that the official might be attacked by the protesters.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Police sources said that official was asked by the police not to move ahead to Lethpora as protesters have blocked the road.
Locals told KNS that protests had erupted in Lethpora after forces had fired teargas shells in Masjid premises during Maghrib prayers.
The protesters then blocked the highway during which the Scorpio passed by. Locals said that Scorpio was asked by the protesters to stop but the driver did not stop and instead fired on them.
A police official who pleaded not to be named confirmed that one civilian was killed while another was critically injured.
After the killing, the Scorpio was burnt. The official, his PSO and driver fled from the escaped and took safety in a nearby CRPF camp. (KNS)
