Srinagar, Feb 06 (KNS): Despite tall claims by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to ensure immediate draining of rain water from the city, for the third consecutive day City is flooded due to rain water.
A day before Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) official said that they are putting every effort to drain the rain water from submerged areas and within a day the situation will be normal in civil lines of Srinagar city, but today situation has not changed much, the areas are still submerged.
Areas like, Hari Singh High Street, Magarmal Bagh, Residency Road, Polo-view, and Amira Kadal Sarai Bala are under water from last three days, the residents of these areas are themselves trying to drain the water but found difficult due to inefficient drainage system.
Residents across the City are accusing SMC; not being prepared despite they were aware about the damaged drainage network and the weather.
“SMC officials are aware about the situation and weather, like previous years this year again they proved insensitiveness,” a resident of Magarmal Bagh said.
Sources from the SMC said that although they are trying hard make things normal, but lack of manpower and not having enough de-watering pumps are main reasons they are incapable of meeting the challenges.

Not only residential colonies, but business and traffic movement continued suffer due to the waterlogging at different areas in City Centre, Hari Singh High Street, Regal Chowk and Residency Road, gives tough times to drivers and commuters to move on water-logged roads.
Residents from areas Hyderpora, Tangpora, Bemina, Jawahar Nagar, Natipora, Eid-gah, 90-feet Road and several other places told KNS that these areas are still underwater, and for an eyewash authorities do work for an hour and left.
The water accumulation in colonies and roads at different areas of Srinagar City and the authorities claims seem to have fallen flat as the ground reality in the city is different from the promises made, as residents continue to be affected by the problem of water-logging.
The city witnessed heavy snow and rainfall since Friday night.
Meanwhile the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad lone told KNS that there is water logging in low-lying areas in Srinagar city, but we have put all machinery and men to dewater the rain water from all areas.
“There were some problems in low-lying areas in Srinagar city, but most of the roads and links are cleared now and people are moving freely,” DC Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone said.
He said that citizens are requested to contact with him in any emergency and grievance regarding water logging. (KNS)
