Sopore, Mar 15 (KNS) : To mark the celebration of Chinar Day, the Department of Social Forestry, in collaboration with local authorities, organized a significant plantation drive at the NTPC Centre in Tarzoo, Sopore.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and officials, all united under the banner of environmental conservation.
The event was presided over by the MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Upon arrival, MLA Kar planted a Chinar sapling on the premises of the NTPC Centre, officially kicking off the drive.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA emphasized the ecological and cultural significance of the Chinar tree, urging the public to play an active role in preserving these historic landmarks of Kashmir. "The Chinar is not just a tree; it is a symbol of our heritage.

The event saw a strong turnout of school children who actively participated in the plantation drive, planting numerous Chinar saplings with great zeal. Their involvement underscored the department's focus on instilling environmental ethics in the younger generation.
Officials from the Social Forestry Department, including the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), were also present on the occasion. They highlighted the department's ongoing efforts to increase the green cover in the district and beyond.
The plantation drive at Tarzoo served as a key awareness initiative, aimed at sensitizing the community about the importance of tree plantation and the urgent need to protect the region's depleting greenery. (KNS)
