Srinagar, January 14, 2026: The Chinar Corps today commemorated Defence Forces Veterans’ Day at the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre here, paying tribute to the service and sacrifices of former soldiers.
The day is observed annually on January 14 to mark the retirement of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, OBE, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces. It serves as a national acknowledgement of the indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment of all military veterans.
The ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding of the Chinar Corps, senior officials, a gathering of veterans, Veer Naris, Veer Matas, and Gallantry awardees.

In his address, the Chinar Corps Commander felicitated the distinguished attendees, thanking them for their exemplary service and sacrifice. He assured them of the continued support and assistance from both the Army and the civil administration.
The event not only celebrated the veterans' contributions but also served as a platform to disseminate firsthand information on various welfare schemes initiated by the Central and Union Territory Governments for veterans and their families.
