Srinagar, May 05 (KNS): Three Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Rampora Chattabal area of Srinagar while as a civilian was killed in an ‘accident’ during clashes in Noorbagh area of Srinagar, police said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Swayam Prakash Pani told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that three militants were killed in the encounter at Chattabal area of Srinagar.
One among the three slain militants according to the police was identified as Fayaz Ahmad Hammal of Dukan Sangeen Fateh Kadal.
“Before formally joining the outfit in April of 2017, Fayaz was operating as an active accomplice of the militant network. He was previously involved in case under FIR no 83/2017 under section 392 RPC, 7/25 IA Act, 30 Police Act of police station MR Gunj Srinagar,” police said.
However, police said that the identities of other two slain militants are yet to be ascertained.
Moreover, following recoveries were made from the encounter site including but not limited to AK 47 rifles, magazines, UBGL, UBGL Grenades, Grenades, Wire cutter, Medical Kit and matrix sheets were recovered.
“On the basis of materials recovered, it is assessed that this group was intending to carry out some major terror attack which was foiled,” police said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, soon after the news about encounter spread, the locals mostly youth took to streets in Chattabal, Noorbagh and other adjoining areas during which they pelted stones on forces, triggering clashes in the area.
A youth identified as Adil Ahmad Yadoo was crushed to death by a police vehicle during the clashes in Noorbagh area of Srinagar. Police said that the youth was brought to SMHS hospital whom doctors declared brought dead.
IGP when asked about the incident told KNS that they taken cognizance of the incident and necessary legal action involving the police vehicle has been initiated.
Asked whether any case has been registered, IGP said that “yes, it is an accident and a case in this regard has already been lodged.”
During the clashes, scores of people including three photojournalists’ sustained injuries near the gunfight site in Chattabal area of Srinagar.
The injured photojournalists were identified as Umer Asif of Kashmir News Service (KNS), Farooq Javed Khan of EPA and Javed Dar of Xinhua News Agency.
Farooq Javed has sustained injuries in hand, Javed Dar in his belly while as Umer Asif has received severe injuries in his face. (KNS)
