Srinagar, May 26 (KNS): Opposition National Conference Thursday said the PDP-BJP alliance is under challenge to protect the special status of the state within the constitution of India.
“Whole sub continent is looking at your alliance whether you can keep the Jammu and Kashmir united and protect its special status,” Muhammad Shafi Uri, NC senior leader and MLA Uri said to the PDP and BJP members while paying obituary to former Chief minister and PDP patron late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
On the second day of the Budget Session, the legislative assembly paid obituary to the former chief minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, other political leaders who have passed away between the last Assembly session and the ongoing Budget Session.
“The constitution of the country has given us (JK) a special status. Now, it is upto you how you can protect it,” Uri said, while hinting to the BJP whose core agenda is to abrogate Article 370.
The NC leader said that the political parties should never forget their promises that they make with the people. “We should fulfill our promises that we make to the people, be it Self Rule, document (Achievable Nationhood) of Peoples Conference,” Uri said while hinting at the PDP and PC, reminding them of their manifestos.
While praising and enumerating the political contribution and stature of late Mufti, Uri said that the real tribute and obituary to Mufti Sayeed would be to work as per the law and how to get back the autonomy to the state.
Uri was the first leader to pay obituary to late Mufti after speaker Kavinder Gupta, and he was followed by Congress legislator form Inderwal, G M Saroori, independent MLAs MY Tarigami, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, PDP’s Naeem Akhtar, BJP’s Sat Pal Sharma, Peoples Conference’s Bashir Ahmad Dar, and MLA Langate Er Rasheed.
Besides late Mufti, obituary was paid to former union minister, late Balram Jakhar, former Lok Sabha Speaker, P A Sangma, former ministers Late Choudhary Lal Mohammad Sabir, late Mohammad Khalil Jowhar, late Dr Romesh Chander Sharma, and legislators late Sehdev Singh, late Mohammad Maqbool Muhjoo and former JK Governor late General KV Krishna Rao.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
While Tarigami, Yasin, and other speakers restricted their obituaries to tributes, Saroori said that the late Mufti Sayeed died while searching files of the flood victims.
The Congress leader while paying tributes to Choudhary Lal Muhammad Sabir, mistakenly, said Choudhary Lal Singh, forest minister, which brought whole House, press and public galleries to laughter.
However, Saroori immediately corrected the name and pointing to Lal Singh, said “Aap ki Umar Bad Gaye”.
Er Rasheed while paying tributes said that it was unfortunate that present chief minister and PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, was absent today.
“We are here to pay tributes to former CM late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed but it is unfortunate that incumbent CM Ms Mehbooba is absent today.”
“Being her a daughter, she should have cancelled all her engagements to attend the House,” Rasheed said.
In his obituary to Mufti Sayeed and other deceased political leaders, PDP senior leader and PWD minister Abdual Rehman Veeri, replied to Rasheed about his question absence of Mehbooba from the House.
“Mufti Sahab was not only the political mentor of Mehbooba Mufti, he was her father. So being a daughter, it would have been quite emotional to be here and hear about the tributes being paid to his deceased father. She does not believe that Mufti Sahab has passed away,” Veeri said.
On the second day, Opposition leader and former CM, Omar Abdullah was absent from the proceedings of the session. (KNS)
